Antifragile Organizations [registrations open]


I just opened registrations for the next edition of my Antifragile Organizations course. Registrations close at the end of December.

This is the 9th edition of my course. It consists of three Zoom sessions, limited to 15 participants and fully run by me, plus two optional one-on-ones, also with me. It will help you make your career, your team, and your organization more antifragile.

How antifragile is your organization?

If I had only a few words to define the antifragile (a term coined by Nassim Taleb in his homonymous book), it would be: what benefits from problems.

Here is a quick litmus test to estimate how antifragile your organization is to ask yourself what happens after someone surfaces a problem.

  • Does the following behavior result in blame, frustration, defensiveness, or overwhelm (a fragile reaction)?
  • Or does it result in a superficial fix to the problem (a robust reaction)?
  • Or in a root cause analysis and a learning or structural change that prevents similar occurrences of that problem from happening ever again, and even improves the product and operations so that the business is stronger than it was before (an antifragile reaction)?

Of course, there is so much more to say about antifragility. However, I hope that the previous question surfaced two insights:

  1. Antifragility is about much more than survival and resisting problems; it's about using them as a strategic source of information and a lever for improvement.
  2. Antifragility is not only something that happens at the strategic layer (e.g., by running many experiments with capped downside and large upside); it's primarily something that happens at the everyday level, in all interactions your people have (with customers, with each other, and with you). Are problems proactively surfaced and their root cause addressed in such a way that everyone is materially better off?
